Research position at Post-doc level or PhD scholarship in Earth Observation / Remote Sensing of Tropical Forest

is a Norwegian research group with a multidisciplinary approach to technology and social sciences. Norut conducts research funded by the public sector and private companies as well as international organisations. Norut currently has 120 employees.
Norut Tromsø
is located in Tromsø Science Park. A main activity at Norut Tromsø is Earth Observation (EO), with focus on satellite remote sensing using synthetic aperture radar (SAR).
The EO group
is increasing its activities within remote sensing and monitoring of tropical forests in support of REDD (Reduced Emission of Deforestation and forest Degradation).

Candidates at post-doc level or for a 3-year PhD scholarship to work on remote sensing of tropical forest with focus on developing new methods for automatic monitoring with emphasis on the use of SAR.
The candidate will work on two already running research projects (a EU FP 7 project with focus on DR Congo and Colombia and a Tanzanian-Norwegian cooperation project) as well as on future projects. The position is located in Tromsø, Northern Norway.
You should
have a PhD or at least a masters degree (or equivalent), if applying for the PhD scholarship, in physics, geophysics, remote sensing, signal analysis, or alternatively in biology/geography with a very strong experience/background in physics or remote sensing. We appreciate curiosity, initiative, cooperativeness and willingness to travel internationally, specifically to tropical regions. Previous experience with remote sensing and tropical forests is highly appreciated. Both genders are encouraged to apply.
